The thing is that even though he’s being 100% reasonable & saying leave the established characters alone & just create new ones, people will still complain!

I honestly think people wouldn’t be upset if it was Miles Morales because he was intended to be black - I’ve actually seen LOTS of support in favour of Miles tbh
They just seem upset because yes Peter Parker has always been white and they don’t want to change a beloved character just because a few bitter people don’t like him being white. It’s people changing his race for pandering that bothers people, especially when characters like Miles exist, and especially when there is so much room to make new characters!! a new face and story is much better than forcibly changing a character’s original design just to make some people satisfied. See above where people wanting Peter to remain white doesn’t mean they’re anti-black, much like people wouldn’t want a black character to suddenly turn white.
As an artist, it’s also just plain insulting to creators. Creators spend days/weeks/months/even YEARS working on characters and hell i’ve spent weeks working on my own, and to have people complain about your character’s race/sex and trying to change it rather than be creative and make their own characters is honestly just annoying and personally insulting as all hell, I don’t disagree Stan Lee at all. I’d love to see newer characters of varying races and genders and sexualties and so on, that’d be rad as hell! I’d love to read all their stories, they’d be an interesting cast of characters.
But we’ll never get to that point of new, diverse characters if people try to change old ones.
